The Rule of Our Holy Father St. Benedict

Chapter 48:

Idleness is the enemy of the soul; and therefore the brethren ought to be employed in manual labour at certain times, at others, in devout reading…. For then are they monks indeed if they live by the work of their hands, as did also our forefathers and the Apostles.

“All that we do in the monastery, even hard work in the fields, all of it is a prayer because, united to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and the Divine Office, our lives become a prayer.”

Mother Marie Cronier

“Work is putting into action the spiritual goods that you gathered during prayer. It is also the proof of the sincerity of our love of God.”

Mother Marie Cronier

“Why must one work? To love more…..The most ordinary work you can imagine can become very beautiful, very great before God.”
